Lead by Example
You don’t become a leader just because somebody bestows a title and position upon you. Leadership by example is the only type of leadership that truly motivates others to follow.
For example…
Nurturing optimal wellness in those you lead only works when you put your own wellness first.
Nurturing resilience in others only works when you model resilience first.
Creating a sense of belonging in your organization only happens when you show your own vulnerability and willingness to be a part of the community rather than standing apart from it.
Trying to fix all the challenges in your school while your own life is out of balance is like trying to build a house on a broken foundation. No matter how hard you work, it will all eventually come crashing down.
I’m Dr. Jenny Severson, and as a leadership development consultant, I’ve helped individual leaders and leadership teams gain the knowledge, master the skills, and develop the habits necessary to transform themselves and their organizations.
And I can help you, too.
Let me show you how you and your team can lead with purpose, lead with joy, and lead with confidence…
1-on-1 Leadership Coaching
Dear Heart Centered Leader-
When I started out as a school leader, there was no one around to teach me how to do the job. So I just dug in and did my best, attacking the job by sheer force of will.
I worked long hours, led or supervised every event, attended every meeting, and generally tried to do it all by myself.
I was able to keep up that breakneck pace for a while, but it ruined my health, damaged my relationships with my loved ones, and eventually led to burnout.
I won’t belabor the point here (you can check out the full story on the About page), but here’s the bottom line…
I learned a LOT of valuable lessons—most of them the hard way—during my time as an administrator. And I’ve learned a lot more in the years since, working with many amazing school leaders across the country.
And what I’d love to give you is what I never had for myself…a shortcut to success.
You see, many leaders find themselves in the same situation I found myself in all those years ago—overworked, overwhelmed, and on the verge of burnout—with no support system to guide them.
I don’t want that to happen to you. That’s why I created my 1-on-1 Leadership Coaching program. When I work with you 1-on-1, I promise that you’ll be seen and you’ll be heard.
I’ll be there every step of the way to be your sounding board and your guide toward deep transformation. Our work together will be designed to give you the kind of clarity, focus, and wellness that will allow you to give your all, both at work and at home.
My coaching philosophy is based on helping you…
Identify your strengths and adjust your work routines so you’re working from those strengths daily
Identify and work from your personal values so that everything you do feels right and in line with your vision for your life
Establish self-care and gratitude practices so you can get well emotionally
Establish wellness practices so you can get well physically and have the energy you need to vigorously champion your priorities
Develop the courage necessary to stand up for your personal values and the values in your school’s mission statement
Establish a learning plan to build your knowledge of research-based, neuroscience-supported instructional strategies so you can become your school’s “lead learner”
Create a plan for fostering a culture of belonging, collaboration, and shared effort among your people
So, if you’re running on fumes and you’re not sure what to do about it, just stop.
Stop overdoing it right now. Stop the relentless putting out of fires. Stop working yourself to exhaustion.
It’s time to reflect and rejuvenate. It’s time to reimagine your career. It’s time to get strategic with your approach.
Listen, work and life should be enjoyable, energizing, even joyful. Kick indecision, busy-ness, and loneliness to the curb.

The CLIMB™ Experience
Is your leadership team struggling?
Are some team members less effective than others?
Are team members pulling in different directions or sending mixed messages to staff?
Are some members overwhelmed and candidates for burnout?
If this sounds familiar, don’t despair. As Tony Robbins famously said…
“The past does not equal the future—unless you live there.”
If you want to create a new future for your school, your most efficient path for turning things around may be to transform your entire leadership team all at once. If that’s the case, my signature senior leadership training, The CLIMB™ Experience, is the answer you’ve been looking for.
CLIMB is an acronym that stands for Courage, Lead Learner, Integrity, Mastery, and Belonging, which are the five elements that I believe leaders must master to reach their full potential.
When you sign up for The CLIMB™ Experience, I’ll guide you through uncovering each team member’s unique strengths and leveraging those strengths in the workplace. You’ll learn how to:
Work more cohesively together,
Enjoy a more supportive work community, and
Achieve a higher combined impact in a shorter amount of time than you’d think possible.
You and your team will have my guidance every step of the way as you implement cognitive psychology and neuroscience-based strategies, build powerful skills and habits, and create and lead a world-class instructional program.
CLIMB can be delivered as on-site leadership training in your district across multiple consecutive days or spread out across a longer time span. It can also be delivered as an off-site retreat experience.
I’m flexible, and we can work together to tailor the program specifically to your goals and design a schedule that works best for you and your entire team.
In every interaction, I’ll be there to champion you!
CLIMB: A Leadership Development Framework for Winning at School and at Home
Mastering the five elements of CLIMB will take your school leadership team to the next level. Participants will experience workshop activities in the following areas:
Courage: Mastering the habit of taking courageous action provides the foundation for all the other elements in the framework. Your team will learn how to identify their strengths and stand on their own values. They’ll also work on mastering the art of having difficult conversations.
Lead Learner: School leaders must be knowledgeable about best instructional practices based on research in neuroscience and cognitive science. In CLIMB, we’ll cover key learning principles and your team will get access to resources for transforming your school’s instructional program.
Integrity: No framework for leadership development would be complete without a focus on self-care for the leaders themselves. It’s just Wellness 101—leaders can’t lead from a place of fatigue and overwhelm. When I talk about Integrity, I mean wellness in the sense of being physically, mentally, and emotionally well and whole. That’s why, for me, Integrity as a core value is non-negotiable. In this part of the training, I teach leaders how to complete the stress cycle each day so they can stay balanced and not get overwhelmed by the challenges they face.
Mastery: While it’s critical for leaders to identify their strengths and values and work from that place of strength as often as possible, it’s also important to identify areas that need to be improved and work to master those new domains of knowledge or skills. I will lead your team through a process to create their mastery goals so they will continue to grow into even more valuable team members long after the training is over.
Belonging: If you’d like to foster a sense of belonging through a culture of dignity among all your people, I have practical strategies to share. We’ll cover creating a shared vision and goals, putting cooperative structures in place, and building lasting relationships across your leadership team and staff.
